Took a chance on it after reading the description here. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Belongs in any working kitchen.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. Good, with the caveats above.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. One of my better finds this year.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. Recommended with reservations.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn.
Grabbed it for a long flight. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. The cover feels thinner than expected. Still worth having on the shelf.
