End of Watch
✍️ Stephen KingBrady Hartsfield returns to kill via suicide while Bill Hodges investigates.
This closing volume resolves the arc begun with the Mercedes Massacre. Brady Hartsfield, though physically incapacitated, uses new mental powers from his hospital room to manipulate others into taking their own lives. Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney must stop him before more deaths occur. The narrative emphasizes the psychological horror of a killer who never leaves his bed yet controls events remotely. It contrasts the mundane world of private investigation with supernatural evil. The tension arises from the inability to physically confront the antagonist. King uses this setup to explore the limits of human agency against pure malice.
Published by Scribner Book Company in 2016, this work sits within the contemporary American horror genre. It continues the trilogy started with an Edgar Award-winning novel. The story reflects modern anxieties about mental health facilities and the unseen dangers lurking in everyday settings like hospitals.

⭐ Reader reviews
Reader rating
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Happy enough with the purchase.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Belongs in any working kitchen.
