Reader rating
Its value lies entirely in its influence on later Gothic fiction, particularly Dracula. The cataloguing is notably thin, offering no summary or hook, which demands readers approach it as an academic curiosity or stylistic study. It does not suit those seeking complex plotting, modern prose styles, or detailed backstories for the creatures. Readers expecting traditional ghost stories or straightforward true crime accounts will find the content abstract and dated. However, for scholars of horror literature and enthusiasts of the vampire's literary transformation from monster to man, it remains an indispensable primary source that defines the genre's aesthetic.
