Took a chance on it after reading the description here. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. My only regret is not ordering it sooner.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. Well worth it.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Well worth it.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Belongs in any working kitchen.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Happy enough with the purchase.
A friend from my book club recommended it. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. Happy enough with the purchase.
This has been on my wishlist for months. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Already eyeing my next order.
