⭐ Reader reviews
Reader rating
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. One of my better finds this year.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Still worth having on the shelf.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Good, with the caveats above.
