I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. The font runs small in this edition. Happy enough with the purchase.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Happy enough with the purchase.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Recommended with reservations.
Needed a good scare and got one. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. The cover feels thinner than expected. Good, with the caveats above.
A friend from my book club recommended it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Already eyeing my next order.
