Lightning
✍️ Dean KoontzA lightning strike introduces a mysterious stranger to Laura Shane in this supernatural novel.
Koontz crafts a tale where the boundary between divine protection and demonic deception blurs. The protagonist, Laura Shane, encounters a blond stranger whose origin is tied to a storm on her birth night. This event sets the stage for a story that examines the concept of guardian angels through the lens of fiction. The narrative does not rely on complex historical research but focuses on the immediate supernatural intrusion into Laura’s life. The inclusion of an afterword by the author provides additional context for this specific reissue. Readers will find the plot driven by the central mystery of the stranger’s identity and intentions.
Published in 2003 by Berkley Books, this work sits within the tradition of American supernatural fiction. It reissues a classic from Koontz’s bibliography, appealing to fans of gothic and speculative genres who follow his exploration of angelic and demonic themes.

Took a chance on it after reading the description here. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. The cover feels thinner than expected. Solid, if not essential.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Definitely recommend.
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Glad I finally picked this up.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Recommended with reservations.
A friend from my book club recommended it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
