Jinn in the Family

R Y Abdulrehman’s Jinn in the Family follows a Canadian psychologist returning to Zanzibar, where long-buried ancestral spirits and traditional jinn confront his modern worldview. Blending psychological tension with rich cultural folklore, the novel builds an atmospheric, unsettling mood grounded in the disquieting realization of what happens when diaspora and heritage collide. Rather than relying on traditional jump scares, it aims for a creeping, psychological dread born from identity, familial expectations, and unseen forces that refuse to stay forgotten. This thoughtful exploration of spiritual fiction and magical realism will particularly suit readers who appreciate slow-burn supernatural horror, cultural depth, and stories where the ghosts of the past feel intimately close.
