Dead Stream Curse: A Northern Michigan Asylum Novel

Erickson crafts a chilling narrative that leverages the oppressive silence of Northern Michigan’s forests to build genuine dread. The novel excels in establishing mood, using the forgotten mansion on Spellway Road as a character in its own right, heavy with secrets and Norse magic. While the plot hinges on familiar haunted house tropes, the execution is solid, focusing on cold-blooded murder and spectral aftermath rather than complex plotting. It suits readers who prioritize atmosphere and folklore over fast-paced action. Those interested in gothic aesthetics and psychological horror will find much to admire in its commitment to creeping unease.
