Wanted something for October and it delivered. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Finally got around to ordering this. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. The font runs small in this edition.
Finally got around to ordering this. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Five stars from me.
Needed a good scare and got one. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Would buy from this store again.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Happy enough with the purchase.
Took a chance on it after reading the description here. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. A keeper.

📖 Who should read this
You will love this if you crave high-stakes paranoia and relentless chases through shadowy bureaucracies. However, readers seeking cozy domestic dramas or slow-burn historical narratives should look elsewhere, as the pace is frantic and the themes are deeply cynical.
