Horror desk

The book effectively leverages the classic horror trope of the unsafe haven, transforming a boyfriend's family home into a site of potential dread. By anchoring the narrative in Beckley, West Virginia, it grounds the supernatural or psychological terror in a tangible reality, enhancing the sense of vulnerability. The premise suggests a strong emphasis on character-driven suspense rather than action-heavy sequences. It suits readers who prefer slow-burn atmospherics and psychological manipulation over jump scares. The focus on Kayla’s precarious position highlights themes of dependency and discovery, making it a solid choice for fans of domestic gothic tales where the enemy wears a familiar face.
