Was skeptical at first. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Still worth having on the shelf.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Solid, if not essential.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. Five stars from me.
