The Grinning One delivers a concise yet potent exploration of Faustian bargains, blending gothic horror with contemporary urban settings. Edmund de Wight effectively captures the desperation of a fading magician, grounding supernatural elements in relatable emotional stakes. The novella excels in pacing, offering an exciting romp into darkness without bogging down in excessive exposition. It suits readers who prefer tighter narratives that focus on character motivation and immediate supernatural consequences.
