Wanted something for October and it delivered. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Already eyeing my next order.
Took a chance on it after reading the description here. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Still worth having on the shelf.
Was skeptical at first. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Solid, if not essential.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Recommended with reservations.
Needed a good scare and got one. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Happy enough with the purchase.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Good, with the caveats above.
