A friend from my book club recommended it. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. Solid, if not essential.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Definitely recommend.
Was skeptical at first. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Still worth having on the shelf.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. Belongs in any working kitchen.
Needed a good scare and got one. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Belongs in any working kitchen.
