Wanted something for October and it delivered. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. The cover feels thinner than expected. Still worth having on the shelf.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it.
