✍️ H. P. LovecraftA 2020 collection of H. P. Lovecraft's experimental poetry and an essay on metrical regularity.
This volume diverges from Lovecraft's famous prose by presenting a curated selection of poetic works alongside critical commentary. The text includes the essay Metrical Regularity, which examines the structural elements of the included verses. These poems were originally written as a satirical take on experimental verse trends prevalent in 1916. The collection demonstrates how these unusual compositions garnered significant attention, eventually overshadowing traditional narrative forms associated with Arthur Ficke under his pseudonym Anne Knish. The book serves as a historical artifact of early twentieth century literary experimentation. It appeals to readers interested in the intersection of poetry and horror fiction history.
First published in 1916, this work emerged during a period when experimental verse was gaining prominence. The original poems were written as a farce targeting then-famous poetic styles. This context explains the unique structure and satirical tone found within the pages of this collection.

First order from this shop. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Still worth having on the shelf.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Would buy from this store again.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. Would buy from this store again.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. The font runs small in this edition. Good, with the caveats above.
