Why this book is worth reading
Readers interested in speculative fiction and the exploration of gender relations will find this narrative compelling. The book offers a unique perspective on societal breakdown, focusing on how men adapt to a world where half the population becomes inaccessible and dangerous. It appeals to those who enjoy psychological horror that critiques power structures rather than relying solely on supernatural scares. The premise provides a fertile ground for examining primal instincts and isolation within an Appalachian setting. Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Definitely recommend.
Took a chance on it after reading the description here. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. Good, with the caveats above.
First order from this shop. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
A friend from my book club recommended it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Belongs in any working kitchen.
A friend from my book club recommended it. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. Good introduction if you have not read this author before.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on.
