This volume is a specialized resource that will primarily appeal to film students, screenwriting enthusiasts, and dedicated fans of Stephen King’s adaptations. It succeeds in detailing the production process through Darabont’s memos and visual storyboards. However, it does not suit readers seeking only the original novella text or those uninterested in the technical aspects of filmmaking. Those looking for a traditional narrative experience may find the focus on script changes and crew credits dry. It is best viewed as a reference tool for understanding the bridge between literature and cinema rather than a standalone story.

Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Still worth having on the shelf.

Dread done right

Took a chance on it after reading the description here. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Belongs in any working kitchen.

Very good

Been meaning to get this one for a while. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Happy enough with the purchase.

Not for the squeamish

First order from this shop. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Still worth having on the shelf.

Very good

Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Solid, if not essential.

Very good

Finally got around to ordering this. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.
