Scary Things Happen in Lakewood

Kevin Densmore presents a collection of sixteen interconnected narratives set in Lakewood, a modern suburb that serves as a sanctuary for supernatural beings. The author draws inspiration from actual events and social media interactions to craft a twisted fictional exploration of this specific community. Residents include a werewolf, a vampire, and the Devil himself, all living among ordinary neighbors. The stories address dark occurrences such as playground fires and missing dogs, revealing the sinister undercurrents of suburban life. Densmore writes from the perspective of a resident, offering an intimate view of the town’s secrets. This approach grounds the supernatural elements in a relatable reality, making the horror feel immediate and personal. The book is organized around these distinct yet linked tales, creating a cohesive portrait of a place where monsters blend into the background. It appeals to readers who enjoy contemporary gothic fiction and urban fantasy with a horror twist. Those seeking traditional folklore or historical settings may find this modern suburban focus less engaging. The narrative relies on the tension between the mundane and the monstrous, rather than epic battles or ancient myths. Densmore’s work is suited for audiences comfortable with psychological unease and community-based horror. It does not offer comfort or resolution, but rather a lingering sense of dread about who lives next door.
