Been meaning to get this one for a while. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. One of my better finds this year.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Five stars from me.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Good introduction if you have not read this author before.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Still worth having on the shelf.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. One of my better finds this year.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Shipping was quick too.
