This has been on my wishlist for months. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Would buy from this store again.
First order from this shop. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Would buy from this store again.
Was skeptical at first. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Happy enough with the purchase.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. The font runs small in this edition. Still worth having on the shelf.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.
Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Recommended with reservations.
