Pulp Adventures #35: Home For Killers!
✍️ H. P. LovecraftA pulp fiction anthology featuring Lovecraft and vintage genre stories.
The book organizes diverse short stories by era, separating classic works from new pulp fiction. H. P. Lovecraft qualifies as a master of cosmic horror with his tale involving a color from space. Charles Boeckman explores pursuit in "Home for Killers!" while Johnston McCulley follows Detective Craddock in "Thubway Tham's Baggage Check." Lew Merrill places conflict far from earth in "Space Burial." E.C. Tubb depicts survivors in "The Robbers." John Clemons writes about stolen jewels. New contributions include Robert W. Walker's rescue mission with a dog and Adam Beau McFarlane's race narrative. Teel James Glenn adds a curse story, and Jack Halliday provides a ghost tale. Editorial content honors E.C. Tubb and reviews Ed Lacy. The mix appeals to those who like varied pulp styles. It lacks cohesion for readers wanting a single author's work.
This issue sits within the tradition of classic pulp fiction, reviving early genre storytelling. It bridges vintage works by authors like Lovecraft and McCulley with new pulp fiction by contemporary writers. The format reflects a magazine-style collection that preserves the pacing and tone of original periodical publications for modern audiences.

It offers a curated mix of cosmic dread, space opera adventure, and ghostly intrigue, appealing to those who enjoy varied genre styles rather than cohesive single-author narratives. Been meaning to get this one for a while. Slow burn, but the burn is the point.
Needed a good scare and got one. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Still worth having on the shelf.
Finally got around to ordering this. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Still worth having on the shelf.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Belongs in any working kitchen.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Five stars from me.
