Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. The binding held up to being carried around for a week.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. The font runs small in this edition. Solid, if not essential.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Recommended with reservations.
Needed a good scare and got one. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not.
A friend from my book club recommended it. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Good, with the caveats above.

Readers craving the roots of psychological dread and Gothic atmosphere will find Poe’s unvarnished darkness deeply rewarding. However, those seeking lighthearted escapism or modern supernatural twists will likely find these tales too bleak and stylistically dated for their taste.
