A grandfather fears his grandson's violence is linked to a malevolent pig.
Malerman constructs a narrative where rural isolation breeds suspicion. Walter Kopple’s life is disrupted by the unexplained murder committed by his grandson. The community interprets this event through the lens of supernatural influence, blaming Pearl the pig. As fear takes hold, the town turns on Walter, creating a claustrophobic environment. The author uses the farm setting to amplify feelings of entrapment and mistrust. This approach highlights how easily madness can spread among people who lack understanding. The plot focuses on Walter’s internal conflict as he witnesses the destruction of his peace.
This book sits within the American horror tradition, specifically drawing on gothic and supernatural fiction elements. It reflects contemporary anxieties about community trust and rural isolation. The narrative style aligns with modern psychological horror that emphasizes internal dread over external monsters.

Bought this for my brother and ended up reading it first. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
First order from this shop. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Belongs in any working kitchen.
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. A keeper.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly.
