Already Dead

Charlie Huston delivers a sharp entry into the urban horror genre by leveraging the duality of his protagonist. The premise of a private detective who is also a vampyre allows for a nuanced exploration of identity, prejudice, and duty within a hidden society. This approach suits readers who prefer character-driven mysteries over pure gore or jump scares. The tone balances professional noir cynicism with supernatural intrigue, making it accessible yet engaging. It effectively uses the vampire mythos to critique social structures while maintaining a fast-paced investigative narrative. Fans of supernatural detective fiction will appreciate the clever integration of lore into a procedural format.
