Dave Franklin delivers a blood-soaked narrative that effectively utilizes the atmosphere of Whitechapel to create tension. By drawing inspiration from John Miles' music, the novella adds a layer of artistic depth to the traditional Ripper tale, distinguishing it from standard historical fiction. The focus on a well-respected gentleman turning to violence provides a compelling psychological hook, appealing to readers who enjoy subverting expectations of social standing and morality. While the format is brief, the tone remains consistently dark and engaging, making it a potent addition for enthusiasts of gothic horror and true crime adaptations.
