A gentle novel about friendship, loss, and the power of love by Stephen King.
Layla, Queen of Hearts continues the narrative of Griffin Silk and his friend Layla. The plot centers on their reaction to an announcement at school regarding Senior Citizen's Day. Layla desires a special person to accompany her, leading to the introduction of Miss Amelie. This new relationship allows both young characters to understand the value of memories and generosity. The story emphasizes how small miracles can impact daily life. It builds upon the emotional foundation laid in The Naming of Tishkin Silk. The text avoids complex plotting in favor of exploring deep feelings and interpersonal dynamics. Readers witness how past losses shape current connections. The narrative structure follows the characters' internal growth rather than external events.
This work is published by ABC Books Au in 2019. It follows a title shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Literary Awards and honored by the CBCA Children's Book of the Year Awards. The story draws on Australian literary traditions regarding childhood and community bonds.

Finally got around to ordering this. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Solid, if not essential.
First order from this shop. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Good, with the caveats above.
This has been on my wishlist for months. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Happy enough with the purchase.
A friend from my book club recommended it. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. Five stars from me.
