Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. The cover feels thinner than expected. Good, with the caveats above.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
This has been on my wishlist for months. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Well worth it.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Highly recommend.
