City Of The Undead

Evelyn Smith’s anthology serves as a potent entry point for enthusiasts of spine-tingling vampire fiction. By leveraging her established reputation from 'Transylvania, Louisiana' and its sequel, the author ensures a consistent tone of dread and supernatural intrusion. The book excels in delivering compact, high-impact narratives that prioritize mood and creature mechanics over intricate plotting. It is best suited for readers who appreciate traditional gothic elements mixed with contemporary horror sensibilities. The focus on vampire mythology provides a familiar yet thrilling framework for exploration. While it may not offer deep philosophical inquiry, it succeeds as pure entertainment for those seeking the visceral experience of the undead. Fans of short story collections in the dark fantasy and true crime adjacent spaces will find this a compelling addition to their library.
