Mendoza delivers a tense, atmospheric tale that balances action with emotional depth. The setting of zombie-infested swamps and desolate towns provides a rich backdrop for exploring human resilience. The ensemble cast feels distinct, with each member bringing specific skills and personal burdens to the group dynamic. While the premise relies on familiar genre conventions, the focus on redemption and unexpected alliances adds necessary weight to the survival plot. It is best suited for readers who appreciate character development alongside horror elements. The pacing remains steady, keeping the threat of both undead and human antagonists palpable throughout the perilous journey from El Paso to New Orleans.
