Horror desk

Ansgar Allen's Black Vellum delivers a deeply unsettling descent into surreal, body-horror territory. The narrative centers on a priest undergoing a grotesque bodily reinvention alongside a surveyor probing the earth's crust for a massive, ancient boulder. This strange journey evokes a slow-building, existential dread rooted in physical transformation and strange, grueling labor. The atmosphere is stark, claustrophobic, and relentlessly bleak, trading sudden scares for a lingering, philosophical unease. It is a demanding, dark work that will best suit readers who appreciate avant-garde horror and literary weird fiction that lingers long after the final page.
