📝 Description: Bizarre Stories for Proper Ladies

Katie Cord presents twelve short stories that examine the strange and terrifying aspects of femininity. The collection moves between rural and urban environments to explore body horror, supernatural elements, and atmospheric dread. Cord qualifies as an author who blends gallows humor with eerie enchantment in her work. The narratives include a pair of sisters acting as midwives for an otherworldly fetus and a pumpkinhead shaped pair of scissors that kills anyone who crosses them. A story follows an insecure girlfriend discovering her perfect boyfriend has complicated hang-ups far worse than her cellulite. Another tale features a sorority girl whose cocaine fueled night goes wrong while 1980s popular songs play in the background. This book suits readers who appreciate a wild mix of terror and dark comedy. It may not appeal to those seeking traditional gothic romance or straightforward supernatural thrillers without satirical undertones.
