Arcanium: Carousel
A woman joins a supernatural circus and discovers her carousel mounts are cursed men seeking rescue.
Evans presents a tale where the boundary between dream and reality blurs for Caroline. Her initial relief at escaping domestic life turns to dread as she interacts with the living carousel figures. The text focuses on her emotional response to Riley and Colm, who are trapped in equine forms. This dynamic creates tension between her desire for freedom and her growing obligation to help them. The narrative does not rely on complex world-building but stays close to Caroline's immediate experiences within the circus grounds. The plot advances through her interactions with these specific characters rather than broad political or social commentary.
This work sits within the tradition of American gothic fiction, published in 2015 by Totally Bound Publishing. It draws on the archetype of the mysterious traveling carnival, a staple of late nineteenth-century folklore, reimagined through contemporary supernatural lenses.
