A Matter of Interest
✍️ Robert W. ChambersA first-person account of supernatural proof found on Long Island's south shore.
The narrative focuses on a specific geographic location where the author encountered undeniable evidence of the supernatural. Chambers uses the setting of Pine Inlet to ground his claims in reality. He contrasts the familiarity of West Oyster Bay with the obscurity of the inlet itself. This geographical detail serves to isolate the narrator and heighten the sense of unease. The text does not rely on complex plotting but rather on the weight of physical proof. Chambers admits to using a fictional style to convey truths he cannot state plainly. This method allows him to present disturbing facts without breaking the narrative flow. The story remains anchored in the author's personal journey along the beach.
The work draws on the tradition of American gothic fiction set in isolated coastal regions. It reflects early twentieth century interests in the paranormal and the limits of rational explanation. The setting utilizes real Long Island geography to enhance the sense of authenticity.

Grabbed it for a long flight. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Would buy from this store again.
Grabbed it for a long flight. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Recommended with reservations.
Needed a good scare and got one. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Good, with the caveats above.
