I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly.
This has been on my wishlist for months. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Still worth having on the shelf.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes.
Finally got around to ordering this. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks.
Finally got around to ordering this. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Good, with the caveats above.
Was skeptical at first. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Happy enough with the purchase.
