It does not suit readers who demand lush prose or intricate world-building; instead, it offers a blunt, unvarnished experience typical of the 'Bachman' pseudonym era. Those expecting subtle psychological nuance may find the approach too direct. However, for collectors and King enthusiasts, the meta-textual value of the introduction justifies its presence. It is a functional piece of horror history rather than a literary masterpiece. The lack of summary forces reliance on reputation, making it a niche choice for those already invested in the author’s broader bibliography and his exploration of societal breakdown.
