Reader rating
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Glad I finally picked this up.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. The cover feels thinner than expected. Still worth having on the shelf.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you.

Scholars of biblical history and textual preservationists will appreciate this rigorous academic study.
