Been meaning to get this one for a while. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks.
Needed a good scare and got one. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Definitely recommend.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Slow burn, but the burn is the point.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. The cover feels thinner than expected. Happy enough with the purchase.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. Happy enough with the purchase.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Still worth having on the shelf.
