The Radleys

Matt Haig presents a deceptively ordinary domestic picture in a quiet suburban English town, centering on a seemingly typical family dealing with everyday marital friction and teenage growing pains. Beneath this calm exterior, however, lies a dark, chilling secret: the household consists of practicing abstainers trying desperately to suppress their true nature. The narrative builds an atmosphere of creeping dread and black humor, examining the terrifying weight of repression and forbidden hungers lurking behind closed doors. It aims for a psychological kind of fear rooted in the monsters hiding inside normal family dynamics rather than supernatural jump scares. This sharp, witty novel suits readers who appreciate dark domestic drama and clever twists on classic vampire lore.
