The Dark Jar: A collection of short stories by Bruce Memblatt

Bruce Memblatt demonstrates considerable skill in varying tone and structure across these seventeen tales, ensuring that each narrative feels distinct yet cohesive within the anthology. The standout piece, 'The Last Station', effectively subverts expectations by transitioning from a grounded police procedural into the supernatural, showcasing Memblatt's talent for building anticipation before delivering a creative twist. While some titles hint at more conventional horror tropes like zombies and vampires, the collection's strength lies in its intellectual agility and daring approach to genre conventions. It suits readers who enjoy deconstructed narratives and are willing to engage with stories that prioritize structural ingenuity alongside traditional frights.
