Parasite
✍️ Darcy CoatesA parasitic alien mimics humans to destroy space stations in Darcy Coates novel.
The story centers on a guard who breaks protocol to study an alien found at her moon outpost. This decision unleashes a parasite capable of wearing human skins and copying personalities. The creature spreads silently, causing hundreds of stations to go dark. Humanity faces extinction as defenses collapse and communications fail. A few survivors must fight back against this invisible threat. Coates uses this premise to examine how easily trust can be weaponized by an enemy that looks like us.
Published in 2020 by Poisoned Pen Press, this work fits within the modern resurgence of cosmic horror and sci-fi thriller genres. It appeals to readers who enjoy tense, character-driven narratives set in confined, hostile environments rather than broad space operas.

📖 Why choose it
Why this book is worth reading
Readers who enjoy claustrophobic sci-fi horror will find this premise compelling, particularly those fascinated by the psychological terror of trusting someone who looks exactly like their allies. The book appeals to fans of Darcy Coates’ other works who appreciate narratives where safety protocols are violated with fatal consequences. It offers a chilling exploration of how an enemy that mimics us can dismantle society from within, making it ideal for audiences seeking tension over gore and those interested in the fragility of human defense systems against adaptive threats.

Finally got around to ordering this. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. One of my better finds this year.
First order from this shop. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. Shipping was quick too.
Took a chance on it after reading the description here. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. The cover feels thinner than expected. Good, with the caveats above.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. The binding held up to being carried around for a week. Well worth it.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Good, with the caveats above.
Finally got around to ordering this. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. One of my better finds this year.
Was skeptical at first. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Good, with the caveats above.
