Nick Cutter delivers a terrifying narrative where paranoia grips characters as escape routes vanish. The story effectively structures its plot around a descent into a nightmarish reality, relying on atmosphere rather than dense academic analysis. It is a strong choice for fans of cult horror who enjoy visceral terror and the exploration of faith and fear in isolated communities. However, it does not suit readers seeking lighthearted entertainment or clear resolutions without horror elements. The focus remains tightly on character survival and escalating danger, providing a steady, intense experience that may feel overwhelming to those preferring lighter tones or complex lore over immediate, visceral dread.

Excellent find

Finally got around to ordering this. The ending is bleak and honest, not a twist for the sake of one. Well worth it.

A new favorite

Been meaning to get this one for a while. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. My only regret is not ordering it sooner.
