📝 Description: La Noche de la Chankla
In the small desert town of Agape, New Mexico, five natural brujas, the Sisters of the Star, are suddenly beset by an unknown evil, which has come for more than just their lives. Luna Cervantes, a bruja, fears for the safety of her family and friends, especially her ten year old grandson, Javier, but the brujas do not know how to find or remove their enemy. Through communion with spirits, research, and their own experiences, they come to believe that it may have something to do with an Evangelical megachurch that lies close by the town on the Texas border, and those within the town who are under the church's influence. But, after being attacked by dark magic, feral dogs, church-controlled authorities, and what they believe might be Norse werewolves, they discover that the church hides something far more sinister than they could have imagined.

Whitedale crafts a tense atmosphere where the mundane desert setting clashes violently with supernatural horrors. The integration of Norse werewolf lore alongside traditional Mexican brujería creates a distinct, albeit unusual, magical ecosystem that keeps the reader guessing. The focus on the Sisters of the Star provides emotional weight to the escalating terror. While the premise is ambitious, the execution relies heavily on the mystery of the church's true nature. It suits readers who prefer atmospheric dread and cultural horror over pure gore, offering a sharp critique of power dynamics through a fantastical lens.
