Hornet
A citizen reporter fights mutant hornets and a secret government plot in Black Water.
The novel operates as a dual-threat thriller where environmental disaster collides with political conspiracy. Myres structures the narrative around the investigation led by Pacie Rose, who must identify the source of the wasp mutation. The text contrasts the visceral fear of being hunted by hummingbird-sized insects with the cold calculation of a government agency seeking to control the situation through devious means. This approach highlights the vulnerability of resort town residents caught between two powerful forces. The story does not offer easy solutions, instead focusing on the desperate efforts to survive an escalating crisis that defies simple explanation.
This 2023 release by Feather and Fermion Publishing fits within the contemporary natural horror genre. It reflects modern anxieties about environmental instability and distrust of institutional authority. The setting in a Lake Michigan resort town grounds the supernatural elements in a recognizable American landscape.
