Four Past Midnight
✍️ Stephen KingA collection of four standalone horror stories by Stephen King.
This volume gathers four separate narratives that explore fear through different lenses. One tale involves travelers stranded in a liminal space between life and death. Another focuses on an author battling his own creation. The third uses the threat of library fines to generate tension. The last places a small town under attack by a malevolent animal. King uses these varied premises to show how horror can emerge from ordinary situations. The stories do not share characters or settings, allowing each to stand alone. This structure lets readers experience different types of dread without continuity obligations. The collection demonstrates King’s ability to shift tones and subjects while maintaining a consistent atmosphere of unease.
Published by Scribner Book Company in 2016, this edition collects previously released stories into a single volume. The work continues King’s tradition of using American small-town settings and domestic spaces as grounds for supernatural terror.

Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
Grabbed it for a long flight. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Recommended with reservations.
Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Glad I finally picked this up.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Already eyeing my next order.
I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Would buy from this store again.
Finally got around to ordering this. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
