Meg Smitherman crafts a tense, atmospheric sci-fi horror in Fervor, following freelance interplanetary transporter Midonia as she becomes stranded with a remote religious colony worshiping a strange entity called Anguish. After a solar flare grounds her ship, Midonia is haunted by a familiar, menacing voice that invades her mind and sparks a ravenous, inescapable obsession. The novel leans into psychological dread and claustrophobic isolation, blending cosmic mystery with cult-like devotion. It is a slow-burn nightmare that suits readers who appreciate eerie planetary settings, internal psychological torment, and creeping dread over fast-paced action.
