This compilation appeals primarily to scholars and devoted fans of Mary Shelley interested in primary sources rather than casual horror enthusiasts. It is a dry, academic pursuit for those expecting narrative thrills or contemporary Gothic fiction; thus, it will likely disappoint readers seeking only plot-driven stories or modern psychological terror. However, for those valuing the preservation of public domain texts and cultural heritage, this volume offers a necessary window into Shelley’s broader contributions. Legare Street Press has ensured accessibility through proofreading and clear typefaces, making this historical documentation relevant today. It is a significant resource for understanding the era's intellectual climate but remains niche in its appeal.

Dread done right

Took a chance on it after reading the description here. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. A keeper.

Very good

Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Recommended with reservations.

Exactly as described

Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. Would buy from this store again.

Good addition to the shelf

Grabbed it for a long flight. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. The cover feels thinner than expected. Good, with the caveats above.

Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.

Finally got around to ordering this. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. One of my better finds this year.

Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. Print is comfortable for late-night reading. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn.
