I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Glad I finally picked this up.
Needed a good scare and got one. The prose is clean and the scares land because the characters feel real. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. My only quibble is that the middle third sags a little. Good, with the caveats above.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. Slow burn, but the burn is the point. Good, with the caveats above.
Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Would buy from this store again.
Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Would buy from this store again.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It leans on old gothic bones and makes them creak convincingly. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.
