📖 Why choose it
Why this book is worth reading
Readers who enjoy fast-paced slasher plots and regional gothic settings will find this appealing. The narrative focuses on the immediate danger posed by Dark Mill South, a serial killer seeking revenge for thirty-eight Dakota men hanged in eighteen sixty-two. Jade Daniels navigates life beyond bars in a rural lake town as her prison conviction is overturned. The structure mirrors a countdown to Friday the thirteenth, with killings ending thirty-six hours later. This book covers revenge killings and prison release themes. It draws on specific historical events to ground its violent events. Those preferring slow-burn psychological horror may find the pace too rapid, but fans of immediate danger and rural horror will appreciate the intensity.

Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. Some chapters are hard to read in the best possible way. The cover feels thinner than expected. Recommended with reservations.
A friend from my book club recommended it. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. The font runs small in this edition. Solid, if not essential.
Wanted something for October and it delivered. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid.
Been meaning to get this one for a while. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. Great value for what you get.
Finally got around to ordering this. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Shipping was quick too.
